Secondary Fuel Filter Installation Basics

RSS

Anyone with a basic understanding of car engines and can install Diesel Dog’s fuel filters. Our Diesel Dog kit already comes with a filter unit, a vehicle-specific stainless steel mounting bracket and a complete set of fuel hose, clamps and hardware for you to install it. Our secondary filters are meant to be installed after the factory filter and are designed to improve your vehicle’s performance.

Most of our filters can be installed and replaced quickly depending on your experience level.

Prepare your vehicle

Before you install your secondary filter, make sure that your car engine is off, and that your vehicle is fully secured. You cannot risk your vehicle rolling while you work, as this could cause serious injury.  As an extra precaution, secure the wheels by adding a stopper on either side, just to make sure that your car stays in place.

Install your filter

Before cutting your hose to reroute your fuel to the secondary filter, you need to make sure that they are clamped shut to prevent the fuel from leaking out. Diesel Dog kits already include a fuel hose for you to use. Be sure to follow the instructions included with your fuel filter so that you know where to place it.

Our fuel filters already come with their own mounting bracket, so there is no need for you to fabricate your own. It should match the model of your vehicle so that the bracket will require minimal adjustments.

After installing the new hose, make sure to remove the old ones from the original filter. Once everything is hooked up, all that is left to do is to prime your secondary filter and to tighten all bolts that need to be tightened. Be sure to check for leaks and that all of your hoses are properly installed.

Clean up, and you are done.
